Free Crochet Pattern: Christmas Tree Bauble Ornaments

I’m happy to say that this week I completed my first item on My Curiouser and Curiouser List, making my own crochet Christmas ornaments. I experimented with a few colors I had on hand for a blue and white “Snowballs” theme and a “Peach Tree” theme. I am really loving the colors in the peach tree themed ornament best, and now want to crochet something else with these colors sometime.

A note about the pattern: I made the popcorn stitches using four double crochet stitches for each. Popcorn stitches are traditionally made with three to five double crochet stitches.

Christmas Tree Baubles

Colors (using Impeccable® Solid Yarn by Loops & Threads®)

Bauble 1 – “Snowballs”

A – Navy Blue
B – White
C – Clear Blue

Bauble 2 – “Peach Tree”

A – Guacamole
B – Light Coral
C – Fern

One Side (Make Two)

Using color A, 4ch, ss to first st to join and make a ring.

Continuing with color A, 2ch (counts as first hdc), 11hdc in ring. [12 sts]
Continuing with color A, 2ch, 1hdc in first st at the base of the 2ch changing to color B at the end of the st and carry both colors along with the rest of the sts in this round (1 RS popcorn in next st changing back to color A at the end of the st, 2dc in next st changing back to color B at the end of the st) x 5, 1 RS popcorn in next st changing back to color A at the end of the st, ss to join. [18 sts total with 6 popcorn sts]
Continuing with color A, 2ch, 1hdc in first st at the base of the 2ch, (3hdc, 2hdc in next st) x 4, 2hdc in next st, ss to join. Fasten off color A but keep B to join later. [24 sts]
Starting with color C in any st 4ch (counts as 1dc and 1ch), 1dc in first st at the base of the 4ch, skip next st, (1dc, 1ch, 1dc in same st, skip next st) x 11, ss to 3rd ch to join. Fasten off C. [12 loops]
With the RS, pull color B through any loop ch-sp and 3ch, 2dc in same ch-sp, (3dc in next ch-sp) x 11, ss to 3rd ch to join. Fasten off B. [36 sts with 12 groups of 3dc each]
Once you’ve done two sides, using color A, 1ch in any st, sc all the way around to connect the sides making sure the right sides are out. Before you get to the end, stuff it with Poly-Fil, ss to join. Make a hanger loop with the end and fasten off. [36 sts]
