Weekly Roundup: Sea-Inspired Crochet, Bee-autiful Wax Embeds, and Reading
This week I’ve started some new little projects, including making a sea-inspired blanket of my own design and some bee themed candles. I’ve also picked up something different to read, venturing into a genre I don’t read much of, sci-fi and fantasy.
After participating in the “Postcards with Love” crochet-along a couple of years ago, I bought a lot of coral, aqua, blue, and cream yarn to start my own sea-inspired blanket, and have finally started on it this week. For the center, and after a lot of experimenting with the five sides, I made this pink starfish. The next part will be the trickiest part, getting this to fit nicely inside of a square.
I was feeling particularly crafty this week, so I also started another new craft project. I have this wonderful wild honey scent that I wanted to use on some special candles for the shop (on which I made my 1,000th sale this week, so I’m a little bit excited about that!), so I got my bee themed molds out and started making some wax embeds. I think I’ll try some cupcake shapes and some little candle bowls for these.
And, in looking for something different to read, I got Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel. I knew nothing about the book or author when I got it, except that it showed up in my Goodreads feed so I thought I would give it a try. All of the elements of the story appealed to me, with a coastal setting of Vancouver Island, and a tale of love and time travel.
